Identity Package / Identity Suite: A group of materials designed and developed to represent the essence of your organization. These packages usually include some or all of these elements: a logo design, letterhead (stationary) and business cards, as well as other collateral pieces such as brochures or newsletters.

Icon: A pictorial representation of a tool, object, file, or other application item.

Illustration: A picture or diagram created to explain or clarify a concept. Illustrations can be conceptual, abstract or realistic.

Image area: That portion of the printing plate that carries the ink and prints on paper.

Image map: A hypergraphic in an HTML document that contains clickable areas that link to URLs on the World Wide Web.

Image resolution: The number of pixels per inch in a bitmapped image measured in ppi (pixels per inch) or dpi (dots per inch). Low resolutions can result in a grainy appearance to the bitmapped image; high resolutions can produce smoother images but result in larger file sizes.

Index bristol: A relatively thick paper stock; basis size---25 1/2 x 30 1/2.

Indicia: Markings pre-printed on mailing envelopes to replace the stamp.

Industrial papers: A term used to denote papers such as janitorial, sanitary or heavy packing papers.

Initial cap: A capital letter set at the beginning of a block of type in a point size larger than the other type.

Insert: A piece of printed material that is prepared for the purpose of being inserted into another piece of printed material, such as a magazine.

Interlacing: A method that lets you display an image on screen at a low, blocky resolution. As the image data loads, the image quality improves.

Iridescent paper: A coated stock finished in mother-of-pearl.

Italic: any slanted or leaning letter designed to complement or be compatible with a companion roman typeface.
